Objectives

One of the goals was to improve the professional profile of the teaching staff of our school. We aimed to attract students’ interest in STEM and STEAM fields through the methodological material and practical experiences obtained from the training within the scope of our project. Participating teachers learned to connect and create interdisciplinary STEAM activities based on real life and concrete experience. The more indirect goal of the project is to educate students with acquiring 21st century skills such as critical thinking, cooperation, communication through the STEM teaching methodology. We wanted to develop teachers' professional skills and increase the quality of non-formal education by actively using STEM workshops. By increasing the professionalism of teachers, learning difficulties should decrease and students' learning motivation should improve. Our goal was to develop the organization's ability to work on an international level through international projects and to gain experience from the practices, educational strategies and educational systems of different countries. In addition, we wanted to develop communication skills and increase foreign language skills of individuals.

Background

Our project aimed to tackle the need for multidisciplinary learning activities and the acquisition of 21st century skills by introducing participants to the theoretical background of STEAM education and practical implementation possibilities. During the learning process, the five participating teachers learned how to involve students in useful and stimulating learning activities in which science, technology, engineering and mathematics (the main components of STEM education) connect with the arts in a broader sense. Thanks to the training ´they attended within the scope of the project, the necessary basic theoretical knowledge of both STEM and STEAM methodology was obtained, and practical exercises were carried out based on cooperation, which combined the skills of real and natural subjects with art and design. Thanks to this project, the participants have developed their own innovative teaching strategies and activities to integrate STEAM learning into their classrooms. Thanks to our project, the international cooperation capacity of our school has increased.
