We are a team of drama educators and actors and we’ve been managing the theatre studio Flying cow for over 10 years now and we needed a structure for our work with youngsters to be more efficient, productive and structured without it taking away the joy of freedom and creativity, but most importantly we were looking for a system, where ideas and dreams of every involved person could be addressed and fulfilled. We believe that it is the only way a community should act – considering all of its members and their wishes – and even if it sounds like a lot of mess and chaos – that is essential for any group and especially for an art community. Thus we desperately needed a system to help us structure our dreams in such a way that every member would be involved and fully committed to making them come true. We use theatre and drama as a tool in personal and social development of youngsters. We carry out activities related to social problems and discuss them “through stage space” where everyone can openly share their opinion. The drama method is also useful for self-expression and self-consciousness. Especially in teenage, when „one wants to show oneself to the world and make a statement“, there is a will to change this world and rebuild it, but for the moment no clear understanding of one’s inner world is there and one isn’t ready to encounter real life problems. In 2018 while participating in an Erasmus + youth exchange in Slovak Republic „People are strange“ we came across and were introduced to Dragon Dreaming System. It fascinated us as group leaders but to our surprise youngsters who were on the project were also interested in it. The feature of the system is that even though it has a very strict logical structure it also comprises practical exercises, philosophy and mythology of its own. We began to practice it at first in organization of small events, theatre plays and later in organization of local projects. So as we had difficulties of implementing arts in youthwork and structuring community building inside our art community before being introduced to Dragon Dreaming and the positive changes that it brought to our group - such as clear structure and plan in a form of a story to base our work on for development of competences of youngsters and at the same time freedom for artistic expression. This combination unites the analytical and informal part of human being and it feels now so natural to implement this system even more in our youthwork. However even though there had been projects about this system before, we wanted to focus it more on bringing arts into youthwork as we ourselves experience a lot of criticism with presenting how arts are useful for enhancing social competences of younsgters and we had no right words to link arts and what formal critearias of youthwork were expecting from us. But having this analytical part would also harmonize art communities with the help of this system. And that is why we wanted to offer youthworkers who use arts in their practices some tools for structuring their work, giving it a logical and rational goals, but without taking the joy of creativity and freedom. This helps community grow and become sustainable. Thus our main aim was: -To give tools to youthworkers who use ARTS in their practices to explore and try out a new way to understanding of and a systemic approach to community building and learning processes in a group in a way that will let the group exist for a long time and constantly develop sustainably by introducing them to Dragon Dreaming system. And the objectives that we wanted to focus our project on: -to develop skills and get knowledge related to providing effective youth work and training activities with special emphasis on using arts and building sustainable community -to create an international network of youth workers with common aims who use arts in their activities and are willing to share knowledge with each other -to exchange youth work methods that use arts -to provide youthworkers with tools for reflection that use art as a mediator. -to introduce participants to DD system using practical exercises that involve working in groups, body work, creative thinking and implementation of arts. At the end of the project participants will have created their own arts project in small groups following steps of DD system. -To find partners from local organizations who work with youth using arts, introduce them to DD and create a community, that will be used for future cooperation for development of DD system -To provide participants with various exercises supporting development of emotional intelligence (EQ) for further youth work using arts
