Objectives

As the first part of the project, we aimed to conduct an educational program day for young people during the 2022 Matsalu Nature Film Festival. The main theme of this festival was climate change and the environment. Our goal was to actively involve young people living in rural areas of different countries in climate-related discussions and dialogues, thereby enhancing their civic engagement on these topics. As the second part, we planned to organize a meeting with project partners in Sweden during the 2022-2023 winter. The focus would be on incorporating input from young people and ensuring their participation in implementing the upcoming camp. The third part of the project involved hosting a miniMAFF camp for young people in spring 2023. The camp aimed to introduce environmental and climate change topics through filmmaking. Additionally, we aimed to popularize nature filmmaking and make it accessible to young people living in more remote geographical areas. Our goal was for up to 30 participants in the camp to acquire knowledge and skills related to environmental and climate issues, photography, and filmmaking. Lastly, we planned a summary web meeting for the autumn-winter of 2023.

Background

The biggest motivator of the project was to involve and integrate various young people who faced geographical disadvantages due to limited access to activities, restricted public transportation, weather conditions, or their family’s social background. Engaging young people provided an opportunity to increase their active participation in everyday life, enhance their civic engagement, and draw their attention to environmental and climate-related issues—allowing them to recognize common values and establish connections. The aim was to encourage young people to boldly initiate their own ideas and provide impetus for their entrepreneurial growth.
