Objectives

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it” Robert Swan. 43 young people came together from 8 countries (Greece, Sweden, Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Turkey) to exchange and learn in non-formal learning methods about the issue of climate change-global warning & its environmental impact to our planet, with the objective to engage and empower themselves and their communities to become active citizens. Youngsters worked together for 8 days in Selianitika, Western Greece, for the purpose of this project “Youth Healing Our Planet Earth – HOPE”, raised awareness about environment and climate change. They acquired and improved competences, skills, learning outcomes, through workshops/ sessions. It is necessary to strengthen the existing spaces of youth in defense of their interests to protect the environment, because young people possess the energy, creativity & passion to create a sustainable “green” Europe. That’s why we wanted to implement this YE, focused on strengthening existing youth spaces to fight against the climatic emergency. We believe that small actions create huge impact, and we were extremely excited to share our ideas with youngsters. At the same time, the project promoted environmental awareness & the fight of youth against climate change. Today, youth must understand the causes/effects of climate change, its impact to humans, the wildfires appeared in Greece & Mediterranean countries, develop their understanding on the most important areas related to it, including above all consumption, use of resources; they got to know what we as customers can do to slow down global warming. We had created this program to bring the knowledge and concerns of experts closer to youth, in order to contribute to their way of thinking and acting. We are passionate about co-creating a more loving & sustainable planet for all its inhabitants through small actions that can create huge positive impact, where collectively we make choices that are aligned with the health & wellbeing of our planet, and all its inhabitants. The project aim was to raise environmental awareness for youth & their fight against climate change, especially for those with fewer opportunities, in need of being supported & socially included. We trained and empowered the next young generation about the power of our daily choices and habits, and the huge impact these choices have on the health and wellbeing of both of us and our planet. We wanted the participants to realize the mistakes that have been made about climate change, to give the youth alternatives to obtain a more responsible attitude, respecting our environment, activating them against the phenomenon of the wildfires. The youth exchange was based on the approach and principles of non-formal learning method. The project’s objectives: •Enhance & raise youth`s environmental awareness on the importance of climate change & its impact of big fires via non-formal methods, stimulate their engagement & active participation in local society. •Promote and support safe, pleasant learning environment based on non-formal methods for youth with fewer opportunities, those in need of social inclusion. •Explore the power of youth intercultural dialogue & learning for tackling global problems as climate change, global warning. •Strengthen European added value and break down prejudices and stereotypes. •Promote the concept of “zero kilometers food”, local products & an alternative diet model, respecting nature. •Train & enhance the participants, via debate games, about environmental issues & fight against climate change, creating tangible and intangible results directly from youth for the youth. •Develop social skills, team spirit and attitudes of young people, sharing experiences, exchange ideas, establishing quality partnerships with European peers. •Motivate youth in street art workshops -related to environmental topic- increasing their art, social skills & cultural awareness. The participants obtained & developed essential skills/competencies, by actively participating in sessions, activities & art workshops, for their personal, social and professional life. By participating in workshops, we raised participants environmental awareness, offer them knowledge & useful tips-advice to protect & heal our planet Earth. They shared their valuable experiences, skills/competences, gained their learning outcomes with their local associations, environmental Organizations: they discussed & shared Youth work practice with their peers in their local communities, for the betterment of all local citizens, improving their everyday life. The participants also had the possibility to meet peers from different European countries and cultures, meet new friends, share their learning outcomes in their home country. They also gained valuable life-skills, EU added value, and international experience to help them develop personally, professionally and to succeed in today's world.
