The project was created with the aim of enhancing young people’s understanding of how the EU as an institution works and fostering a sense of belonging to it. The specific project objectives were: 1. Better knowledge about EU and its values, by providing training content for youth, and organisations and stakeholders that work with or for youth. 2. Promote the civic participation of young people, giving them the necessary tools to be agents of change capable of actively influencing their environment, being the ones who participate in the improvement of society 3. Facilitate the inclusion of young people belonging to groups at risk of social exclusion, by participating in training workshops on the European Union. 4. Promote citizen coexistence and social cohesion among young people from different origins and realities 5. Promote innovative practices and social transformation, through the creation of guidelines and methodology to train young people in the values of the European Union and its history. With the successful achievement of the aforementioned objectives, the project contributed to the understanding of the history and values of the European Union by the young participants, fostering a sense of belonging to it.
The project was created at the end of 2021 after successive crises - economic, health and refugee crises- which had left a big impression on young people about their trust in the European Union and its institutions. As the partners understood - and many surveys confirmed - young people had a negative perspective about the future, feeling excluded from the economic and social lives of their country and the EU as well as thinking that their voices are not being heard. After initial research, the partners understood that a major reason why young people felt this way was because no information about the EU and its benefits was available to them in a way and through a medium that they were comfortable accessing and enjoyed using. As a result, the partners decided to create a project that provided youth workers with innovative material regarding the European Union which they could use to encourage young people to understand the EU as an institution and its benefits to its citizens, rebuilding the lost trust in it. As a result, the project would inform young people about the EU Values and institutions, through gamified knowledge that would contribute to a new, more positive, perspective on the European Union by the youth.
