Objectives

The project was initiated with the objective of sharing best practices in sustainable social inclusion and implementing innovative initiatives for active aging. By successfully replicating the workshops in Spain, the following objectives were expected to be achieved: Address the isolation of older women and increase their well-being and active participation in society, as well as promote active aging through occupation, personal development, interpersonal relationships, and social inclusion. Foster intergenerational exchange by involving students and young designers, increasing respect between generations, breaking barriers and myths, boosting the self-esteem and confidence of older women, and enhancing the social responsibility of young people. Improve the competence of trainers already involved in adult education by incorporating creative solutions for the social inclusion of women, knowledge of the circular and sustainable economy, and tools to improve self-esteem and empower older women. Raise awareness among all beneficiaries and project participants about the importance of responsible consumption and environmental protection.

Background

Every woman, regardless of her age and condition, should be able to develop her creativity and skills and actively participate in society. It is necessary to promote activities for women over 50 that foster physical, mental, and emotional health, while also promoting active and healthy aging. In Portugal, they have been developing a project called "From Granny to Trendy" for years. This project provides women over 50, who are out of active life for various reasons (economic, social, health), with textile upcycling skills to modify and give a second life to their garments. By reusing textile and garment waste, the project minimizes the fashion industry's impact on the environment, while promoting empowerment and significantly improving their well-being and quality of life. One of the benefits of cooperation between European countries, facilitated by programs such as Erasmus+, is the possibility of leveraging innovative methodologies and effective strategies that have proven successful in different contexts. In this case, a project was proposed to replicate the upcycling workshops in Spain, specifically in Zaragoza.
