"Return to town" project involves young people from four different countries: Spain, Italy, Serbia and Hungary. "Return to town" aims to collect and share good practices and ideas for the creation of social and sustainable youth-led enterprises in rural areas at risk of depopulation. Several rural areas across Europe have suffered significant depopulation in recent decades, with part of the population moving to large cities. This has gradually led to a decline in employment opportunities for young people, a rise in average age and a decline in services, which have not been addressed by effective policy interventions. In addition, this has led to a gradual widening of the gap between rural areas and large cities. The long-term risk is that some areas will be completely depopulated, with an irreparable loss of their heritage, including cultural heritage. The rural area of the province of Burgos is an example of these phenomena, and we decided to use it as the location for the project because, in addition to being an unpopulated area that meets many of the characteristics of the problem at hand, it is home to several associations, cooperatives and young entrepreneurs who, on the contrary, are trying to keep the area alive, creating opportunities for growth, diversification, work and tourism. With "Return to town" we want to try to face the difficulties and the crisis affecting rural areas and their assets, providing young people with skills to identify their potential, creating spaces of comparison between different perspectives, indicating the tools to be able to act and create sustainable and social projects and enterprises, involving the local population and cooperating with other realities of the territory. The specific objectives of the project are: - to share information and knowledge about European rural areas at risk of depopulation, analysing their problems and potentialities; - to learn how to listen the local populations, including them in the process of creating ideas, activities and enterprises according to the principles of participatory democracy; - to get to know the youth enterprises and cooperatives that have been developed in the rural areas of the province of Burgos, discovering their strengths and weaknesses; - to provide practical knowledge about the world of social enterprises and cooperation, providing the necessary basis to create a sustainable enterprise; - create a list of good practices in terms of social enterprises, cooperatives and/or initiatives developed in rural areas of the countries participating in the project; - promote dialogue and cooperation between young people, between young people from different cultures and between young people from different backgrounds (young people from rural areas and young people from large urban centres); - promote initiative and active participation of young people; - promote the concepts of environmental, social and economic sustainability; - to create a network of partners at European level, committed to the promotion and revaluation of the rural environment; - create a Facebook page to raise awareness of the project themes, sharing surveys, polls and articles on the themes of rural depopulation and virtuous cases of social enterprises; - create a digital toolbox containing the good practices developed during the exchange, but also the activities and methodologies used; - promote the Erasmus+ programme and its opportunities, as well as non-formal education methods.
