Objectives

The project was conceived with the aim of working with a group of young people who, from both of their origins, were at risk of social exclusion due to their background or socioeconomic status. They faced difficulties in participating and had no previous experience abroad. The objectives set for this group, with whom the project and activity program were developed and written, were: to stimulate their sense of belonging to the European Union, create spaces to facilitate learning and growth in autonomy, and make a significant effort to showcase these young people engaging in activities within their community, aiming to dismantle the stereotypes associated with this specific group of youth. Throughout the project months, participants from both groups were able to discover the European Union, its institutions, and what it means to be a citizen of it. They also developed a critical mindset to observe areas that could function better. During the preparation phase of the exchange, emphasis was placed on roles, leadership, and independence, fostering their autonomy and growth for adulthood. Additionally, participants from these groups became "writers" of their experiences during the exchange and created content for social media platforms aimed at changing preconceived notions about them. All this learning and monitoring were made possible through the participation of an interdisciplinary team, combining youth work with social work from both associations involved.
