This project seeks to strengthen the work of the Pamplona Adolescent Participation Commission. This Commission began its activities in 2021, within the framework of the municipal program “COworkids” and comprises 28 under 18 members. It convenes twice a year in May and November. The objective is to create a space in which under eighteens can submit proposals for the improvement of Pamplona to their local politicians. They can also share their views on any issue that their local politicians want to address. Furthermore, the Commission functions as a space for dialogue and communication, building bridges between local politicians, institutions, child welfare charities (such as the UNICEFNavarra Committee) and minors. This project focuses on the 13-18 age group that make up the Commission, although younger children also make up the Commission. In general, the participants come from vulnerable backgrounds, and approximately 47% of COworkids participants are regular users of Pamplona’s social services. This project will strengthen the adolescent presence within the Commission and stimulate their interest in youth participation by uniting them with young people who are committed to European democracy. The 13-18 adolescent age group will mingle with young Spanish Blue Book trainees and European youth associations at a meeting to be held in Brussels in June 2022. First of all, between January and May 2022, meetings will be organized with the 13-18 adolescents age group from the 14 neighborhoods of Pamplona to work on the issues to be addressed in the Adolescent Participation Commission, to be held in May 2022. These meetings will be led by the COworkids team. The issues to be addressed will be framed within the Sustainable Development Goals. The 13-18 adolescents age group will identify 4 teenagers who will be their representatives in Brussels. The aim of the trip to Brussels is that they can discover different experiences of young people starting their European career, as well as make visible in Brussels the work of the Pamplona Adolescent Participation Commission. This will involve a communication plan to be designed by the Pamplona City Council's Communication Department, making the meeting of young teenagers from Pamplona with other young people in Brussels visible and disseminating the work of the Pamplona Youth Participation Commission. Another objective of this trip to Brussels will be for the group of 4 teenagers to gather information on the function of the European institutions in order to inform and sensitize the other members of the Commission. This information and European experience will be passed on to the rest of the representatives of the Participation Commission in November 2022, when the members of the body meet again. As a result of this whole process, it is hoped to obtain the commitment of local politicians to take into consideration the different proposals that the adolescents have drawn up, so that the city of Pamplona can be redesigned through the eyes of adolescents. The COworkids program, from which the Adolescent Participation Commission arose, will be strengthened with greater adolescent and youth participation. It will benefit COworkids' volunteering plan. The aim is that once they turn 18, these young people will feel a sense of belonging to the municipal program. And, because of this feeling of belonging, they become a reference for the children who come to the program for the first time. The adolescents who participate in the program will be able to share their experience with the other children who participate in COworkids, thus opening up new horizons for their personal and professional future. An important part of the project will also be the families, who will be indirect beneficiaries. They will get closer to the European Union and learn about new opportunities for their children. The positive impact of the participants in Pamplona will be reflected through a communication plan, with the aim of making the citizens of Pamplona aware of the proposals made by the Adolescent Participation Commission. In addition, part of the training they will receive will be on creating youth associations. It will be fundamental in this project to generate the autonomy of the participating adolescents so that, if they have an idea they want to develop, they can achieve it through their own association.
