Objectives

The idea of the youth exchange "Media. Power. Youth", came from young people, who wanted to reflect on the way we are influenced by media and how we react to information from media. The youth exchange took place 27.11.2022 - 4.12.2022 in Damvillers, France . This youth exchange was the continuation of the development of the topic of media that we have already started with our very first activities, where our representatives were the participants. This one was realized with our new partners and going even deeper in the topic, tackling such topics, like advertising, social networks, media manipulation, media and freedom, election campaigns, etc. 30 young people from Europe were able to compare the situation in their countries and discuss about the role that media plays in our societies. For each of the topics, there were reflective workshops using presentations, discussions in small groups and in plenary, games, quizzes, etc. This enabled young people to present their opinion about the particular theme. After that, the participants got time to create some real media output on these topics. They recorded short movies, wrote their own newspapers, took journalist photos, using the ideas and inspiration from the morning sessions about the theme. The 8-day program used methods on non-formal education and learning by doing. The project “Media. Power. Youth” linked to the general objectives and important features of the Erasmus+ programme. This youth exchange consisted of two main activities: Preparatory Visit and Youth Exchange; it gave the opportunity to young people from 5 European countries to share their knowledge and elaborate on a topic that is extremely crucial nowadays. The participating countries were France, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Estonia. The program included the activities in Verdun with an excursion to media and discussions. We communicated actively with the local community in the venue of the exchange and involved them in the project and in creating our media outputs. The results of the youth exchange were disseminated through social networks, websites and through our partner organizations. Our biggest achievement was to inform more people about the situation behind the screens of our countries, to give them the freedom to think, create and be innovative. We believe that not only young participants have benefit from the exchange, but it has had a much larger impact on other groups as well. One of our aims was to work with the local community, to explain to them what we do, to facilitate interactions between young people and local citizens and to spread awareness about international youth projects and the Erasmus+ programme. We created a group of friends with the same ideas and views in life which can easily organize each other and manage to work together.
