Experiential learning The project aimed to achieve several key objectives through its implementation: 1. Professional Development Activity: The project focused on a training and networking event aimed at designing sustainability-focused youth exchanges within ecovillages and sustainability projects. It addressed the European Youth Goal of a "Sustainable Green Europe." 2. Background on Ecovillages: Defined as intentional or traditional communities designed through participatory processes, ecovillages integrate the dimensions of ecology, economy, social, and cultural aspects into a holistic sustainability approach. These villages serve as models of sustainable settlements and offer non-formal and informal learning experiences. 3. YES to Sustainability (YTS): In 2016, the initiative saw the implementation of youth exchanges in ecovillages, engaging around 400 young participants. It witnessed a snowball effect, attracting more organisations from various countries. The aim was to maintain momentum, nurture capable youth into leaders/organisers, and involve new partners from underrepresented countries. 4. Addressing Pressing Issues: The project addressed contemporary issues such as climate change, lack of social cohesion, radicalisation, and economic crises. It recognised the urgency for societal change and sought to contribute by promoting low-carbon lifestyles, active citizenship, and inclusive participatory structures. 5. Ecovillages as Solutions: Ecovillages were seen as pivotal in demonstrating low-carbon lifestyles, aligning with the Paris Agreement's goals, and offering a model for sustainable living while maintaining a high quality of life. Project Objectives: The main objectives included increasing the number of sustainability-focused youth exchanges in ecovillages, enhancing the quality of partner projects, fostering international collaboration, promoting sustainable lifestyles among young people, inspiring youth to become active citizens, and contributing to societal change. The project strived to create a ripple effect by instilling values and attitudes aligned with sustainability, equipping young individuals to address contemporary challenges, especially the urgency of climate change and the need for social cohesion and respect for the environment.
