Objectives

The ‘Who are we in the village - Critical thinking, geopolitics and graphic facilitation’ training course arose from a need identified by several Alliance members and some other partners with whom we work regularly, to train youth workers in their associations more specifically in their role in developing critical thinking among the young people they support. Globalisation and the ever-increasing interconnection between players make reality more difficult to decipher. In a society that is becoming polarised, with extremist ideologies convincing some young people, it seemed important that youth sector professionals should be able to play their role of intermediary and social cohesion, by passing on analytical tools to young people. We wanted to explore how the fundamental notion of critical thinking, which serves as a basis for questioning oneself and the world around us, is passed on to young people through our activities. As youth workers, what is our role in supporting young people? How can we work with young people without our point of view on an issue influencing the young person's point of view? How can we empower young people and make them aware of their full power to act in society? We experimented with media education tools. How can we use the different media to inform and educate ourselves? How can we acquire basic geopolitical knowledge in a fun way so that we can understand current conflicts? We used comic strips and graphic facilitation, which are ideal learning tools, particularly for understanding complex issues. The objectives of this training course were therefore centred around : - deepening knowledge of the concepts and history of geopolitics and education for critical thinking. - acquiring practical skills in visual facilitation and using it as a facilitation and learning tool in geopolitics and education for critical thinking. - exchange good practice between participating organisations on the training themes.
