Objectives

The initial objectives set out in the submitted project were as follows: – Scientific study and its translation into an action plan in 2022 – Implementation of information sessions, awareness-raising, and the development of sustainable tools until August 2024 – Dissemination of tools within partner federations, European and global ice sports in the second half of 2024. These objectives have been refined and detailed as follows: – Establish a status report on prevention policies and tools in partner countries and federations (France, Hungary, Netherlands, Switzerland) – Pool existing resources among partners and adapt them to identified specific needs – Identify the specificities of ice sports in the emergence of sexist and sexual violence – Communicate the results to raise awareness within the ice sports community – Raise awareness about these issues through specific sessions and with a tool collectively created for this purpose – Sustain awareness efforts among young athletes in a climate of trust, with staff who are themselves trained on the issue.

Background

In late 2019 and early 2020, numerous revelations concerning sexual violence in French sports were made. Among them, the testimony of a former high-level skater (who published a highly publicized book) particularly affected the French Ice Sports Federation (FFSG). Following her statement, other testimonies were received. This is why the FFSG decided to apply for this project, to, on the one hand, identify the specific characteristics of ice sports regarding the emergence of this violence, and, on the other hand, to propose prevention tools to raise awareness and protect young skaters. There was therefore a twofold need: – first, to establish an inventory of the systems and resources in the various partner federations (international, Hungarian, Dutch) and identify any specific features in ice sports – Then, collectively develop specific and targeted prevention tools that the partner federations would use.
