Objectives

This project was devised, prepared, and implemented with the idea of giving young people the opportunity to discuss prejudices and stereotypes in a safe environment and through the use of a style of artistic expression that the participants know well: drama and theatre. Connecting three organisations that organise regular English-language theatre/improv courses, the project wanted to bring together participants from Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia with the explicit reason of preparing a common play and the implicit or “hidden” motivation of making the participants interact, get to know each other, and demolish the stereotypes they have about each other and each other’s countries through teamwork and cooperation. The goals were not only to create an original performance and improve the participants’ artistic and social skills, but rather also foster intercultural understanding and promote tolerance among them. The stated objectives of the project were: a) to put 24 young adults, aged 14 to 17, in the position to freely discuss prejudices/stereotypes/European values through the use of non-formal education tools, in particular theatre methodology; b) to directly inform the participants of the opportunities offered and the value that can be added to their lives by the Erasmus+ programme and the European Union as a whole; c) to create a piece of theatre which focuses on prejudices/stereotypes/European values to present to the audience of Rijeka as a tangible result of the Youth Exchange; d) to create a stronger long-lasting connection between the three partner organisations, which share similar values and outlooks on current issues; e) to empower the 24 participants by letting them choose and come up, with the help of the national group leaders, with their own specific theatre workshops to present to each other; f) to create 24 "young Ambassadors" of the Erasmus+ programme and the European Union, who will share their experience and motivate their peers to join similar activities even beyond the end date of the project.
