We wanted the participants in the project to manifest their emotions more accurately through arts and to understand themselves better, to communicate easier and to get to know about each others’ culture. In order for them to work with their emotions, we gave them tools for a better understanding of each others’ needs, and participants got to reflect on their personal direction of improvement in life through the means of arts. The scope of the project was to improve the level of emotional intelligence for the 37 participants in the Youth Exchange during the 9 days of the mobility through artistic exercises that can powerfully impact the personal wellbeing, which we consider a goal being accomplished. The project also aimed to give youth incentives and methods that help them to focus on their long term-goals, to be true to themselves, to be aware of their feelings, to be able to empathize with others and to have constructive communication. We aimed through the diversified artistic activities for Youth to also find new passions, strong points or even hobbies, that would further help them with building patience, fostering introspection and mindfulness. Throughout the 9 days they got to explore many types of activities to be able to identify what they like doing most, and we can say for sure that participants got out of their comfort zones, some practicing slow painting methods, while others theater or martial arts for the first time. Participants learned more about the concept of emotional intelligence and what it helps us with, and they also got more motivated to keep improving it. They also created a very strong network of support during the exchange, actively listening to each other, sharing their needs and getting better and better. The activities proposed had the power of increasing the level of engagement in long-term activities related to personal education that will help participants manage with success the challenges faced in their daily lives, also after the end of the exchange. Many young people might be disrupted from performing artistic activities, as it is not being seen by the society as productive, impacting negatively youths’ connection with their internal values also by not bringing them the satisfaction and rewarding that art can do. In the exchange we aimed to increase the engagement of youth with leisure activities, which studies showed that will further impact their wellbeing in life and in their careers. Through arts, participants also improved communication and interpersonal interactions, creating sincere and profound human connections, shaping therefore a more tolerant society that facilitates integration.
