By implementing this project, our objectives were to build on the relationships we have forged with our partner school Lycée De Lattre de Tassigny, improve students' attitudes towards and engagement in language learning and increase their confidence, as well as developing their awareness of and celebrating European cultural heritage and diversity. We also wanted to increase digital technology skills for learners and staff, enhance learners’ skills of collaboration, leadership, teamwork, reflection, management, presentation, communication, and negotiation in their project work with our French partners, encourage higher number of learners to study French as a Leaving Certificate subject and increase awareness of regional Green initiatives in the schools & communities of our project partners.
Beech Hill College is a designated disadvantaged post-primary school (DEIS) in Monaghan Town that is currently undergoing a period of rapid growth in student numbers. The school management team has identified MFL subjects & increased networking & engaging with partner schools in the European Education Area as development priorities. We have approx. 800 students (12-18 years) and over 70 teaching staff. We applied for this project in order to tackle the educational disadvantage of our pupils, engage more in networking and projects/opportunities with our European partners, improve learners' attitudes to language learning & build their confidence, provide fair & equal access to high quality, immersive cultural experiences for students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, develop learners’ awareness of and celebrate our shared EU cultural heritage & diversity and collaborate with our partners to develop the digital technology skills of learners & staff. We also wanted to increase awareness of regional Green initiatives in the schools & communities of our project partners.
