Our project was entitled 'Agents of Change for Human Rights: Actions for an Inclusive, Diverse and Democratic life.' We saw this project as a natural extension of our previous Leadership ERASMUS + Programme. This project derived directly from our post-mobility evaluation from our last project. Our principal objective was to engage youths in leadership roles on a three-part / three flow on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in a project/ learning initiative. The project was iterative: each step of the project built on the previous part. The second objective of our project was to celebrate our common language – Music: all 3 groups had this common language albeit we all played different genres. A third objective was that we also wanted to enjoy an outdoor healthy lifestyle and engage in hiking/ walking/ swimming etc. Our project was informed by the EU Youth Strategy - the framework for European cooperation in the youth field for 2019-2027. In summary this project’s objective encompassed the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2023 to ‘encourage young people to participate in democratic life; support social and civic engagement; ensure that all young people have the resources they need to play an active part in society’ (EU Youth Strategy). The overall objective underpinning the 3 flows was that we wanted the youths to explore human rights through an exploration of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. The concept of human rights empowers people and tells them that they deserve dignity from society. The Universal Declaration of human Rights states that everyone is 'entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized.’ Our project broke this massive concept up into 3 parts as follows: In Ireland, July 2022 the Objective of the Human Rights Project was: To enable the youths to become familiar with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: this involved the youths becoming familiar with, understanding and discussing, the 30 key statements from the UDHR. The whole week was based on analysis of the 30 statements from the UN on The Declaration of Human Rights. Reflection and evaluation were integral to the project and active learning methodologies included digital table quizzes, powerpoint presentations, applying UDHR to our everyday life and Giant Steps role play. The objective of part two of the Human Rights aspect of the project, in Salzburg in January 2023 was: to enable the youths to build on the first part of the project on the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) by expanding it to show how society and individuals are affected when Human Rights are denied (here we did case-studies, dramas, reflections, evaluations and we studied social justice organisations and how we may be able to consider our role in any of these). The objective of part three, in Norway, Easter 2023 was a Call for Action: What can I do? This was prompted by 'My Possible Actions' Reflective Worksheet. What will I do in my life for social justice? Plus, of course, reflections and evaluations on the whole project... Our project therefore included work that derived from the Council of Europe’s Youth Plan 2018 on: 1. Citizenship 2. Personal, Social and Learning to Learn Competence. 3. Literacy Competence. 4. Digital Competence. 5. Competence in Cultural Awareness and Expression and 6. Multilingual Competence. We focused on the current EU Youth Strategy: ‘Engage, Connect and Empower.’ We embodied all of this with our Youths as delineated in EU Strategy 2019-2027. In our programme we Engaged our youth to take part and to take on Human Rights Issues in Society (complete programme is outlined below). We Connected young communities from 3 different countries and from different backgrounds (The Irish and Norwegian groups have some marginalised youths). We Empowered our youths to become Agents of their destiny and that of the World in this transformative project on Human Rights. The youths, by being involved in the model of transformative project-based learning that we engaged in, enhanced their leadership skills therefore the enhanced the moral, cultural and social lives of the youths themselves, their families, their communities, their country’s and of the European Union and beyond. Our SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable Realistic and Time-bound) targets Empowered our youths through our quality innovative project. The impact of our project 'Agents of Change for Human Rights: Actions for an Inclusive, Diverse and Democratic life,' enables our youths to have the skills and understanding of processes which will enable them in the future to see, decide, judge and act on Human Rights Issues.
