Three key words for the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 are " Engage, Connect, Empower". That was the intention of this project. To engage young people in activities that promote their participation and engagement in society, to ‘Connect’ them by providing an opportunity where they can exchange experience through mobility, and ‘Empower’ participants through activities that encourage young people to take charge of their own lives by equipping them with the necessary resources such as peers to peers teaching themselves sustainable and environmental-friendly practices to combat Climate change (United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals 13) and tools to develop and build old and new competences. What we wanted to achieve by implementing this project "Celebrate European Cultural Diversity part 3" Youth Exchange was the fact, we saw the impact of the previous projects on the participants including young people with fewer opportunities, i.e. refugees, asylum seekers & newly arrived migrants, that took part in Celebrate European Cultural Diversity part 1 & Celebrate European Cultural Diversity part 2 (virtually) and they asked for another version to be implemented. They were also a part of the project writing team. This Project: Celebrate European Cultural Diversity Part 3 "CECD3" objectives included: - Deepen young peoples' understanding of cultural heritage - Foster the development of social, civic, and intercultural competencies, and critical thinking - Tackle discrimination, segregation, racism, and bullying and promote integration - Enhance access and participation of young people with fewer opportunities - Develop young people's awareness of European cultures, cities, and European values - Deepen young people's awareness of issues of equality and diversity and how these compare to other countries - Promote social inclusion, tolerance, and European citizenship - Enhance the visibility of Erasmus+ programmes and help youth leaders develop their competencies and be certified with a Youth Pass. Another dimension that was added to this project, it was care for the environment and raising awareness of lifestyles that is better for the environment. We had a guest speaker from University College Cork Environmental Society from the Environmental Department of University College Cork. This project was in alignment with our YouthsRule Strategic Plan 2019-2022, European Education & Training 2021, Erasmus+ 2021-2027 objectives & two Priorities (1. Erasmus+ Priorities: Environment and Fight Against Climate Change as this project had a objective to empower youth to care for the Environment through Eco-living: youth-led sustainable and environmental-friendly practices), and the EU Youth strategy Policies 2019-2027. This youth exchange "YE" also contribute in the implementation of 2. Erasmus+ 2021-2027 Priorities: Inclusion and Diversity as through this project, we reached out to young people with fewer opportunities, i.e. refugees, asylum seekers & newly arrived migrants mainly from Dublin, Mayo & only few from Cork, by inviting all youth to have equal opportunities with Erasmus+ & to attend an Erasmus+ project for their first time ever. The project supported the personal development and intercultural competencies of participants and exposed them to the opportunities in Erasmus + as well. The majority of the Irish participants for this project were from Mosney Direct Provision Center near Dublin. This was their first time attending an Erasmus+ YE. We believe this is in line with the Inclusion and Diversity Priority of Erasmus+ 2021-2027 offering equal opportunities to all youth. Implementing this project, gave young people a sense of an opportunity to turn their idea into realities post Covid-19 We believe this is in line with 2022 Year of the Youth celebration objective. Implementing this Youthled Youth Exchange gave young people of fewer opportunities especially undocumented youths the chance to participate in an European Programme: Erasmus+ 2021-2027 objective and Priority (Inclusion & Diversity).
