Objectives

Youth Work Ireland Tipperary has a proven track record and relationship with the Association of Active Youth of Florina. A similar youth exchange in 2019 was delivered, a 2020 application was made for another project but was unable to go ahead due to a global pandemic. The decision was made to build again in 2021 for a project in 2022 and even more so needed for the health and wellbeing of young people. There has been an ongoing developments even prior to what has been mentioned. Building on the experiences and standard of delivery the Association of Active Youth of Florina and other Youth Work Ireland Tipperary Projects has grown and particular The Rural Outreach Project (Youth Clubs) has their own link and opportunity by participating in the project in 2019. Through implementing this project, we wanted to want to make a world full of possibilities a reality for the young people we work with. Those in youth clubs are classed as rurally isolated are at significant disadvantages for a variety of reasons and the opportunity to travel outside of the county and experience new cultures and viewpoints would be a “lifetime changing opportunity” that they could also have, while linking with and reflecting on theme mental health and well-being. The objectives of this project are underpinned by the '5 Ways to Well-being' 1) Connect- Providing young people with the opportunity to connect with other young people from a different country. 2) Be Active-Cultural comparison in terms of engagement in physical activity. 3)Take Notice-To explore the cultural differences around well-being. 4) Keep Learning- To examine 5 ways to well-being in a positive and supportive manner and for the young people to devise a peer tool kit with a variety of simple ways to support their own positive well-being. 5) Give- The young people will take part in planning and running their own Random act of Kindness to give back to their communities Through facilitating a youth exchange we achieved 1) Breaking down the barriers and fears that young people have around talking about their mental health. 2) Promotion of the importance of seeking help for mental health issues and knowing that they are not alone. 3) Gaining and raising awareness around the impact we all play in supporting our own metal health. 4) Gaining the perspective from young people from a different country around their experiences of mental health. 5) Make progress in tackling the issue of rural isolation by providing young people with the opportunity to meet & work with other young people from cross YWI Tipperary as well as in a different country
