The project’s primary goal was to empower students by making social and civic education more interactive and impactful. HEDA sought to provide teachers with innovative tools and methodologies, enabling them to teach complex civic themes through art, thereby enriching students’ understanding of democracy, human rights, and social justice. Additionally, HEDA aimed to establish a supportive network of educators committed to fostering inclusive and empathetic learning environments.
The HEDA (Human Europe Democracy Art) project was initiated to address the growing need for engaging civic education that goes beyond traditional teaching methods. Recognising a gap in students’ understanding and engagement with democratic values, human rights, and social responsibility, HEDA aims to integrate art—particularly theatre—into secondary school curricula to foster empathy, critical thinking, and active citizenship. The project brings together a diverse consortium of European partners who share the vision of using experiential learning to cultivate socially responsible citizens.
