Objectives

The project specific objectives are: 1. to promote responsible and active citizenship among students 2. to develop the students’ environmental consciousness 3. to give students and teachers the chance to analyse current practices in waste management and make positive changes 4. to turn the schools into ECO-friendly schools through the implementation of the waste management programme 5. to improve intercultural awareness, promote tolerance and mutual respect

Background

We applied for this project to address a general problem that has attracted attention at EU level: waste management and its effects on the environment. With this project we wanted to make a conscious effort to educate young people to become more responsible citizens towards the environment. The project is in line with the horizontal priority "Environmental and climate objectives" as it aims to develop awareness on environmental issues, as well as to involve students and teachers in the problem and to empower them as drivers of change in current waste disposal practices. Furthermore, by promoting responsible behavior and active citizenship among beneficiaries, the project addresses the second priority we have chosen: common values, civic engagement and participation. Through activities implemented at European and local level, beneficiaries have started to think critically about these environmental aspects and we have pushed them to identify solutions that they can then transfer to their immediate environment: family, school and local community. Since the project is at European level, each partner school brought added value by combining different mentalities and realities, thus enhancing the intercultural component.
