The main objective of this project was to investigate the immigration process of students and help them adapt in class. This included raising awareness of refugee and migrant issues among students, teachers, and welcoming communities from different cultural, religious, and political backgrounds, fostering a sense of support, recognition of diversity, tolerance, equality, and non-discrimination. Specific objectives of the project were: -To contribute to the integration of non-EU immigrants into European society, particularly those from marginal areas or with special needs, increasing participants' empathy towards refugee and migrant issues. -To promote awareness among students about the importance of diversity in multicultural societies, strengthen participants' knowledge of diversity and equality, and include students in the new education system by offering personalized programming. -To improve the abilities of partners and teachers to include families and students with a migration background. -To avoid discrimination and stereotypes -To ensure successful personal and academic growth for students
According to Eurydice, immigration in Europe had significantly increased since 2015, especially among asylum seekers. Therefore, we considered promoting inclusiveness and diversity in schools essential, as well as helping immigrant students integrate into the host country. One of our main motivations for this project was to minimize the psychological impact on immigrant children newly arrived in a different country. These children and their families often don't know the host country's education system and usually do not speak the host country’s language. Furthermore, integrating students with migrant backgrounds into the European system is crucial to avoid negatively impacting their personal and academic development. All the project partners valued that it is crucial to avoid feelings of displacement that might affect the students psychologically. To meet these challenges, teachers and educators needed tools and methods to foster this process. Through discussions and best practice sharing with colleagues from other EU countries, they filled the knowledge gap and gained inspiration from each other.
