Objectives

Our roots and heritage encompass what we were, what we are, and what we will be. As Europeans, we each have unique traditions that should serve to enrich us as individuals and as a community. Nevertheless, this diversity sometimes hinders integration and connection between countries, leading to conflicts that often involve young people. In fact, diversity can act as a cultural barrier to integration among different countries, cities within the same country, and even between different individuals within the same city, especially for those who have immigrated. We decided to implement this project with the idea that our traditions and their diversity are great empowering values. Young people are the ones who can fight back this phenomenon, through culture knowledge and understanding. In fact, we believe that a good way to appreciate diversity and fight racism and stereotypes is to rediscover our heritages, and to do so we have implemented the Youth Exchange Mind your ROOTS!, in communion with our European partners who shared our point of view. With this needs shared with our young volunteers form Universal Civil Service, and other young people from our communities and from the partner countries, we have planned a project centered on non-formal activites, which main goal has been to show quality ways to promote territories and their cultures; it has been crucial for us that the activities were not strictly related with our territory, but to the possibility to involve the interest of all young people who shared this needs and the possibility to be applied everywhere in their own local comunities. In addition to the events and activities we regularly organize in our community and in the Campi Flegrei region, our young volunteers, through their connections with local associations working on international projects, recognized that it was the perfect moment for Pro Loco Città di Bacoli to take advantage of these significant opportunities. After meeting with our partners, we concluded that a youth exchange program would be the most fitting activity to pursue in order to attain our objectives, so we applied for it to achieve what follows. To promote and preserve local heritage and traditions was the primary objective of our project, for which we established multiple goals. Firstly, we exchanged information and knowledge about ways to promote local heritage and traditions. Additionally, we intended to raise awareness among young people about the importance of local roots, and encouraged their participation, leading to the creation of a booklet that shared ways to promote and preserve local heritage and traditions. Our plan was to disseminate this booklet on various levels in the partner countries. Moreover, our project aimed to inspire active citizenship, foster cultural awareness and expression competence, and promote the values and objectives of the Erasmus+ Program. We reached the decision that the best way to demonstrate the strong impact of positive examples on youth was through a booklet produced by our participants (youth themselves) based on their preferences and ideas. This booklet contained strategies, knowledge, and examples of good practices they acquired during our activities, making it an ideal outcome to share not only what they learned, what inspired and motivated them, but also practical examples of how to implement those ideas in a concrete manner in other communities. Our aim with this Youth Exchange was to connect different European countries by promoting the understanding and appreciation of our roots and traditions. This helped us develop a greater appreciation of our diversity and sustain our common European values.
