By carrying out this project, our objective was to improve the conditions of the area around us, managing to raise awareness among all the participants and the inhabitants of the area, to have behaviors aimed at protecting the environment, to the importance of correct separate waste collection with consequent recycling of some materials, but in particular we wanted to draw attention to the dangers of plastic, the main source of pollution of the waters of rivers and seas, in particular of our Mediterranean Sea, in fact it represents a trap area with record levels of pollution from microplastics with 1.25 million fragments per km2 which are even 4 times higher than those recorded in the plastic island of the North Pacific. To this it must be added that the sea often represents the reservoir into which, even through rivers, the final products of many industrial and agricultural processes are conveyed and introduced with relative spillage of toxic substances such as chemical products and heavy metals, which are ingested by various fish species that live there, causing considerable damage to them and becoming potentially dangerous even for humans. These were the main motivations that led us to write and carry out this project, we have demonstrated that we young people have the desire and the possibilities to change things in order to ensure a better future starting from the territory that surrounds us, in fact the Our activities have been an example for many of our peers, but also for representatives of institutions and other associations and companies present in the area. The objectives achieved were those we initially set ourselves, we have largely restored the optimal conditions of the local landscape and coastal environment; we promoted correct practices in order to protect the sea and the environment, involving other young people and representatives of the public and private sectors, encouraging everyone to have correct management of the coastal strip; thanks to the presence of our Greek friends we had the opportunity to exchange ideas to take inspiration from the protection methods adopted in other European countries and study how to implement them, improving the sense of collaboration and linguistic properties. In the end all the young participants felt much more responsible and in control of their own future, strengthened by having contributed, even if in a very small part, to achieving some of the objectives that were set by the member countries of the European Union.
