Objectives

For the presentations of this project, we took into account the skills of our group and the problems relating to the Messina community that also had a European scope. The first problem was the growing diffusion among young people of a sedentary lifestyle and the lower participation in sports and aerobic activities. The latest Eurostat research relating to the practice of aerobic activity shows that only 33% of young Italians aged 18 to 24 exercise it, compared to a European average of 43.3%. This certainly derives from the flaws of the traditional education system, where the hours dedicated to physical education are often treated as a waste of time or as simple recreation. A recent study of "Save the Children" also highlights how families increasingly abandon their children to a sedentary lifestyle, based on electronic games, therefore more accessible, and less marked by the performance of sports and outdoor activities. The second problem attributable to the project was related to poor food culture, an investigation by the IARD Research Institute highlights how young people skip breakfast, adore sugary snacks and drinks, especially after hours, and recognize dinner as the main meal . Pasta and meat abound in the daily diet, while legumes, fruit, eggs and fish are the least consumed foods by young people involved in research. This is caused by the absence of nutrition education within the school curriculum and the ease of access to "junk" food. The objectives of the project, that we achieved, were: - Create an interactive and multicultural space to discuss and learn, also thanks to the presence of experts, regarding motor activity and optimal nutrition; - Improve the lifestyle and physical and mental well-being of 36 young people from 6 different countries; - Exchange good practices and new tools within the partnership in order to strengthen commitment at local and European level; - Spread Erasmus + and ESC programs and increase European sentiment.
