YOU ACT: YOUth ACTion for climate change, is a Youth Exchange, designed to help young people who are approaching environmentalism and civic activism for the first time. YOU ACT was created to contribute to the fight against climate change, citizen passivity and political failures regarding the climate crisis, promoting, on the contrary, eco-friendly lifestyles, the active participation of young people and all Europeans to the Community's decision-making processes and by supporting the total trust that must be placed in science and knowledge. The project aimed to support young people in the learning process and in the deep understanding of the current atmospheric and natural phenomena due to climate change, also encouraging a social reflection on the indirect effects of this crisis. Therefore, the objectives of the project followed a didactic logic, which allowed young people to follow a gradual cognitive path, towards the realization of their own critical thinking on the subject. The first point that YOU ACT wanted to develop was the strengthening of the basic scientific knowledge of young people regarding the study of climate change. Young people were guided in acquiring technical and scientific knowledge about the nature of climate change, through creative and stimulating informal and non-formal learning methods. The project has promoted an interdisciplinary approach to the study of science, capable of stimulating all young people in a different way. The second objective of YOU ACT was to make participants aware of the indirect effects of the climate crisis, such as social problems (emigration, conflicts, etc.), and youth psychophysical disorders (eco-anxiety, eco-mourning, solastalgia etc). This was possible through activities that encouraged intercultural dialogue, emotional self-awareness and critical thinking of young people about today's society. We also wanted to reflect on the impact that our lifestyles have on the environment, and from this analysis develop more eco-friendly alternatives to negatively impacting daily habits. The young people were stimulated in the creation of good practices, in the development of their creativity and decision-making awareness. Finally, YOU ACT wanted to promote youth, civic and political activism, knowledge of European environmental policies and sustainable development plans, to spread a collective awareness that allows citizens and young people to actively participate in European decision-making processes.
