Objectives

The power of music and its ability to influence human emotion and behaviour are fascinating. Particularly its extraordinary ability to galvanise a malaise, fatigued or frustrated society into action. Music is an excellent way to bring us closer to other cultures, but it can also be a carrier of stereotypes and biases. The responsibility is to work towards remedying such injustices, educating to change the meaning of human experience. It is necessary, therefore, to raise our own consciousness and that of our participants to the unfairness that exists in our societies and to create environment in which we can imagine new ways of being with each other in the world. We can begin this process by creating spaces in which we do not accept the given as the only way, but question, dialogue, and imagine. In such a milieu we can stimulate equity and social justice. This project aims to compare different musical cultures; develop artistic skills and create new musical works, exchange cultural differences and similarities while contributing to each others improvement, promoting social inclusion, and raising awareness of social inequity and injustice. Project partners are Italian associationa Pro Art Lab, Serbian association Kulturnacija and Slovak association for economy, solidarity and cultur onlus, based in Slovakia. The project has following objectives: - learn how to use arts and music as a tool for social inclusion and integration and promote benefits of music, such as cultural awareness, creative expression, cultural understanding, and social cohesion. - develop empathy for and understanding of each other. In the process we will come to understand, see, and imagine things in new ways, together we will build a sense of community; - gain understanding of the critical role of song and music in the life of a people. Participants will confront some of their own stereotypes and biases; - raise awareness about social injustice and promote respect for diversity through musical inclusion in order to achieve the vision to invest in more music-making projects; - social skill development, improvement of multilingual and soft skills and deepen the knowledge of artistic practices of the participants; - understand the importance of intercultural society and engage in a dialogue on different issues; - take into consideration other cultures and nurture them in the promotion and preservation of their identity; - enhance sense of belonging to the European community and understand the important concepts of the EU; - understand the importance of non-formal and informal learning through meaningful learning experience, as well as all resources made available to formalize the experience gained in a project like this; - creating a network of cultural organizations that wants to work with young people through creative and effective methods in which learning takes on new meaning.
