Objectives

In Lithuania, the priorities of social work are care and employment of the disabled. Empowerment and integration are not given the necessary attention however. Social workers and individual care workers do not have sufficient competences to enable intellectual skills acquired by the disabled for employment and survival in the labor market and to ensure their integration into the labor market. Disabled people also lack encouraging role models for empowerment and integration into the labor market. Opportunities to acquire new, modern competences that meet the needs of persons with disabilities at the national level are limited because there are no working models of good practical experience. The project was aimed at European social institutions working with people with mental disabilities in the countries of the union and getting to know the employment models of people with mental disabilities operating in those countries. With the help of the project, an important step was taken, changing the policy of social work with intellectually impaired persons in Lithuania, so that enabling intellectually impaired persons towork would become a priority in social work The main target group of the project: employees working with disable people
