Objectives

The main objective of our project was to enable teachers of different subjects to acquire the most innovative European-level knowledge, methodologies, and practices that might help them prepare for the updated general educational curricula that will start in 2023. The updated curriculum emphasizes the development of general competencies in all subjects, as well as reflective learning for each pupil. Every pupil is engaged in learning as long as the teacher chooses the right methods to convey and assimilate the material and helps the pupil to understand at what level of achievement he/she is and what and how he/she needs to do in order to improve both academically and personally. 30% of the content of the curriculum will be chosen by the teacher. This provides an excellent opportunity for the teacher to creatively select activities related to the curriculum themes in order to develop the general competencie: cognitive, citizenship, creativity, cultural, communication, social, emotional and healthy lifestyle, and digital. Every teacher needs not only to get the newest European insights and practices but also to develop these competencies within themselves in order to succeed in educating young people.

Background

Rokiškis Juozo Tumo- Vaižganto Gymnasium is the only gymnasium in Rokiškis, consisting of two subdivisions, and implements the general curricula of the second cycle of basic education and secondary education, which were approved in 2008. The gymnasium was established on 22 August 2012 by the merger of Juozas Tumas- Vaižgantas Secondary School (founded in 1918) and the Rokiskis Romuva Gymnasium (founded in 1972). Since 2019, the gymnasium has been participating in the NEA(National Educational Agency) project "Good Teaching in a Good School" together with 8 other Lithuanian schools. From 2021 onwards, the project was continued with the funds of the remaining 5 schools and the main goal of the project was to prepare for the implementation of the updated educational programs. The UTA (UTA- updated educational content)team in the Gymnasium was formed on the basis of the GMGM team and the leaders of the methodological groups. The UTA team developed a plan of activities in order to prepare for the work with the updated curriculum. This Erasmus project is one of the activities of that plan. The headmaster and the deputy headmaster are members of the UTA working group of the Rokiškis District Municipality.
