MOTIVATION AND OBJECTIVES To strengthen cross-border cooperation within the Greater Region, we gave young people the opportunity to experience Europe at its heart and to discuss whether and how coexistence should be organised across national, cultural or other borders. The aim of the project ‘Europe without borders - a media tour through the green heart of Europe’ was successfully realised through the implementation of several multinational youth encounters, which drew the participants out of their virtual comfort zone and motivated them to get to know the landscape and cultural heritage of the Eifel-Ardennes region using mobile media technology as well as hiking, canoeing and cycling tours. They discussed current European and environmental issues and recorded the results of their discussions in the media. Over the course of the project, the participants got to know the entire German-Luxembourg border and travelled along it in order to consciously experience the ‘borderless Schengen Europe’. At the beginning and end of the tour, they visited the memorials at the border triangle in Ouren-Lieler and in Schengen. From a youth work perspective, an extracurricular context with non-formal learning and experiential methods was used, which appealed to all participants to a high degree of participation and offered them a wide variety of learning experiences.
