Objectives

The project “Youth and Peacebuilding” was created to give youth workers the understanding of peace-building, current situation of the problem in the world, raise awareness about peace in Europe among the participants, and teach them how to use this knowledge and non-formal education tools in their work with youth. This training course provided an overview of the peace-building field and introduces the skills needed to succeed in it. During the course, participants were exposed to a set of key theories, skills, and approaches to building peace, preventing conflicts and real-world examples that exemplify the complex challenges of peace-building. All this knowledge that our trainers presented involved the examples on how to implement these new practices in youth work. “Youth and Peacebuilding” training brought 18 youth workers and 2 trainers from six European countries: Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, Portugal and Luxembourg. We were aware of the sensitivity of the topic, and together with the partners, we decided to create this training as an event, where youth workers learnt how to work on the prevention of conflicts. The objectives and general principles of this training course were: - To increase awareness and teach youth workers about the problem of peace-building, conflict and violence, peacebuilding, and how to present this topic to young people they are working with. - To update acquire knowledge of work practice and refresh the pedagogical skills of youth workers, to develop and broaden knowledge, skills, and competences of young leaders in the field of their work with youth. - To improve the level of key competences and skills of youth workers, including those with fewer opportunities, as well as to promote participation in democratic life in Europe and the labor market, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity in a close connection to the thematic of the project. - To foster quality improvements in youth work, in particular through enhanced cooperation between participating organizations, to create an environment where the open and honest discussion takes place. - To give the participants skills and knowledge to become educators in their communities and help their friends, relatives, and other people to understand the process of peace-building. This was done through such activities as “Working with Conflict: Skills and Strategies for Action”, “Peacebuilding Workshop”, "Communication Skills”, “Youth against Terrorism”, etc.
