The aim of the project is to expand students' understanding of sustainable lifestyles, based on different social, political, economic and ecological situations and experiences. The mobility participants compared their experience with the experience of their cooperation partners - the students of the Blankenese Gymnasium (Hamburg) - by conducting joint research on the habits of the population, and also got an idea of how environmental problems are solved in Hamburg - using an environmentally friendly public transport network, restoring degraded areas (reconstruction of the old port), using the latest technologies in urban construction (multi-level streets), the idea of inclusion (apartments in the new city districts for different social groups of the population), waste sorting system, citizen involvement in the urban planning process.
The basic idea of the educational programs of Daugavpils State Gymnasium for grades 7-12 is education for sustainable development. Students learn the goals and basic principles of sustainable development (learning to know, learning to be, learning together, learning by doing) both in the daily learning process and in course lessons. In the lessons of the course (engineering, medicine and health, entrepreneurship, cultural management), 10th-11th grade students study the issues through the prism of sustainable development, the compliance of their skills with the requirements of the industry, as well as learn to implement individual projects that promote sustainable development at school and in the local community. Both in the 7th-9th and 10th-11th grades, students also learn leadership skills and ideas - change begins with defining the goal, active involvement of each individual and mutual cooperation. The idea of the project is to get an idea of both the implementation of sustainable development ideas in the big city, as well as the possibilities of every citizen's involvement and personal impact on global processes - on environmental preservation, mitigating the effects of climate change.
