Objectives

Within the framework of this project we wanted to achieve: • Exchange information on professional foreign language teaching issues between interested parties; • Contribute to the reorientation of language teaching in partner organizations, including language skills in the context of professional content; • Offer professionally oriented language training modules for adult learners to support career changes and participation in lifelong learning, and increase competitiveness in the labour market; • To offer professionally oriented language training for adult learners to support career changes, participation in lifelong learning; • Develop specialized language training modules for vocational education and training teachers and professionals in the labour market.

Background

Today, due to international labour movement, the demand for foreign language skills has increased. Employers consider language skills to be one of the most important skills for current and future employees. Therefore, vocational education and training and continuing education should include the teaching of work-specific foreign languages, oriented towards practical application. The problem arises that the foreign language teacher of the partner organizations does not have sufficient competences to determine the most relevant and necessary foreign language skills for specific professions and to create appropriate teaching materials. For this purpose, a cooperation between vocational education and foreign language teachers and the labour market/companies was established with the aim to create vocational foreign language learning material that helps develop professional foreign language speaking and communication skills for easier integration and inclusion in the labour market. The aim of the project activities is to create modules for learning professional English that meet the requirements of employees, based on the fact that English is the most widely used foreign language in the professional working environment.
