Objectives

The Youth Exchange “Our Difference is Our Strength” gathered 36 youngsters from Latvia, Georgia, Armenia, Slovakia, Greece, and Turkey. We aimed to break stereotypes, overcome hate speech and fight discrimination. We aimed to achieve several objectives by implementing it. The main objective was to promote equality and non-discrimination among young people. They recognize that discrimination was a prevalent issue in societies and that it is essential to combat it by understanding its different forms, causes, and ways to prevent it. The background of the project was related to the following: Discrimination is well-known in all societies. It is treating some people unequally that is treating people differently. Discrimination means treating a person unfairly because of who they are or because they possess certain characteristics. Discrimination happens every day in the world. Many people face discrimination at work, school, driving, or during normal daily activities. Discrimination is regarded as unfair when it imposes burdens or withholds benefits or opportunities from any person on one of the prohibited grounds listed in the Act, namely: race, gender, sex, pregnancy, ethnic or social origin, color, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture. All of these arise from prolonged superiority complexes, ignorance, and indifference to people’s identities. Young people are affected by constant changes in global social and economic realities, and many face poverty, exclusion, inequality, and marginalization. The main aim of this project was to promote equality and non-discrimination among young people. No one is born with prejudice but rather has the potential to develop it over time. It is crucial to foster the values of equality and non-discrimination among youth and it must be done from an early age through formal and non-formal education. Non-formal education plays a key role in fostering the development of key transversal competencies, especially relevant ones being self-reflection, empathy, and mutual respect. Learning objectives were: • Learn how to communicate with others using non-violent communication; • Exchange knowledge and examples of good practices with an international group of young people; • Improve knowledge about other cultures and religions and countries; • Promote youth intercultural dialogue and universally shared values; • Rise solidarity and tolerance through intercultural dialogue; • Overcome stereotypes and intolerance; • Organize short workshops about discrimination and intolerance for the local youths; • Build an international network of youth (Facebook group or page or other social networks); • Develop and improve communication skills in English; •Raise awareness about Erasmus + opportunities; we aim to break stereotypes, overcome hate speech and fight discrimination.
