Discrimination and hate speach are a very important issue still present in todays modern society. The young from other minorities are especially concerned by this issue. The minority that still faces discrimination the most in North Macedonia are the Roma. Every day we see examples of young Roma being discriminated, especially in the educational and employment process which are one of the most important branches of society that grant decent and successful life. In Bitola there are approximately 5000 Roma. A number of researches have identified the Roma as the most deprived ethnic group in North Macedonia, their fundamental rights threatened in all areas of the public sector, including education, employment, health and social care, and other services. This is clearly shown in the "Shadow report" about the implementation of the Roma Strategy in North Macedonia that was developed in the project "Joint Initiative to empower Roma Civil Society in the Western Balkans and Turkey" supported by the European Union, call Europe Aid/150147/DH/ACT/PRAREG, project number 2015/370-300 implemented by Roma Active Albania and its partner for North Macedonia, the Regional Roma Educational Youth Association - RROMA. This report shows clearly the concequences of the discrimination and hate speach, especially in the part about the antigypsyism where we can read that Roma children are still segregated in schools, the educational books are full with stereotypes and discimination towards the Roma, and in the area of employment the Roma still get lower paid jobs and are not fairly represented in the public institutions. Our recently implemented training course of our ongoing Erasmus + project "Antigupsyism and digital media" (2020-3-MK01-KA105-094479) in Bitola, showed that the local Roma are not informed about this term and have lack of skills and knowledge to adress and combat it, and the majority usually do not consider it their problem as non-Roma. The news are full with examples where the Roma are negatively shown and the social media testifies of the hate speech in the posts and comments that we read every day. It is clear that the antigypsyism is very present in our national and local environment and we need to adress this problem. As an organization that works with Roma as our main target group, this issue conserns us directly and we need to provide activities for the people, especially the young Roma and non-Roma in Bitola, that will educate, inform and make them aware about it. That is why we propose this project that specifically wants to: -- Introduce the term “antigypsyism” more widely to the local community including the ways to prevent and combat it; - Give knowledge and skills on how to recognize fake news on digital media with accent on the social networks as a way to combat “antigypsyism”; - To increase the digital skills of the young, especially the Roma, through recognition of fake news on the digital media; - To strengthen and develop the skills of the Roma and non-Roma youth and youth workers in order to enable them to educate the young to fight successfully towards the discrimination, the stereotypes and the hate speech on a local level; - To promote the equality and the individual’s right to be different thus giving chances for everybody; - To enhance the intercultural awareness; - To promote bigger active participation in society; - To increase the motivation for taking part in future education or training; - To improve the communicattion and presentation skills of the paticipants; - To promote the inclusion of the Roma as people with fewer opportunities, with accent on the youth; - To strengthen the cooperation between our organization and local actors for the exchange of good practices and knowledge in order to promote sustainable approaches and tools for social inclusion of the youth that respond to the direct needs of local communities and young Roma, especially towards combating the antigypsysim.
