Due to restrictions brought about by Covid-19 the young people spent a lot of time indoors and their days were spent most of the time online without doing any outdoor activities. Whenever we met, sometimes even online, the young people expressed their longing to go for walks, play in the park and spend time in green areas however it was not possible. The lack of outdoor activity had also a negative impact on their mental health when inside, as they were experiencing anxiety, restlessness, and low moods. We realised that many of them do not have the ability to stay alone and reflect with oneself, if a thought or a worry passes through their minds they just rush for an electronic device and try to forget it. They had little awareness about techniques such as meditation and breathing; skills that can help them in difficult situations. With this project, we wanted to provide outdoor spaces, connection with nature and oneself, techniques for young people to use when they have difficult moments such as anxiety and stress. For most of the young people this was their first experience abroad. They have only been in contact with other young people from their own country or their own town or village. Hence one of the objectives was also for young people from Malta to travel abroad and meet people from different cultures and life experiences.
