Objectives

Prejudice, stereotyping, or institutional discrimination against people with disabilities is referred to as disablism. It is a form of discrimination, oppression, and abuse motivated by the belief that people with disabilities are inferior to others. The worst part is that disablism is frequently unconscious and thus goes unnoticed in our societies. Youth with disabilities are disproportionately affected by disability. Transitioning to work and financial independence is difficult enough, but for youth with disabilities, it means a significant decrease in access to individualized services (UN). According to a Michigan University study (2019), people who had contact with people with disabilities had lower implicit and explicit prejudice. Close contact between people with and without disabilities, according to one of the researchers, creates a "chance to develop positive associations with the group and see them in a different light." This project aimed to create experiences that challenge disablism and foster positive peer-to-peer relationships among youth with mixed abilities by drawing on given and personal research, NGO statements, and real-life experiences. As a result, the main goal was to combat disability and increase young people's ability to address the needs of the disadvantaged through positive interactions with people with mixed abilities. The following objectives were used to achieve this goal: 1) to reduce negative attitudes toward sensory impairments 2) to dispel existing stigmas and myths about sensory impairments 3) to create a program that fosters positive social interactions among youth with mixed abilities. 4) to increase participants' empathy 5) to improve participants' personal, social, and learning skills, as well as civic competencies 6) To promote EU values such as human rights and equality; and 7) To promote Youthpass as a tool.
