The common concern expressed among youth workers / leaders within the project was, that as a result of bullying, youth feel unconnected, disengaged, powerless, excluded, discriminated. marginalized. Such an oppression make them feel less than others, a feeling of “I am not nice” as the normal others” As youth workers / Leaders we felt the need to be competent enough to address effectively, youth bullying behaviour through an innovative tool such as the “Theatre of the Oppressed.” The implementation of this training project provided an opportunity for the participants to explore this innovative tool to encourage bullied youth to be strong enough to overcome their bullying situation by instilling in them a feeling of “ I am nice as well” The aim of our project was threefold 1. To create a space for participants to explore in “how to engage, connect and empower youth in overcoming bullying 2. To provide a space where the participants can expand their experience in tackling bullying in their youth work through the application of Theatre of the Oppressed (TOTO). 3. To get participants to become familiar with the “Theatre of the Oppressed” methods as tools to combat youth bullying. TOTO Overview This kind of theatre was created by Brazilian theatre visionary, Augusto Boal (1931-2009). It is a form of popular community-based education that uses theatre as a tool for social change. It is practiced at a grassroots level by community organizers, activists, teachers, social workers and cultural animators. TOTO is a form of social intervention, liberating participative theatre. It provides a framework for exploring different behaviour, alternative courses of action and strategies in a stage-performed sequence of scenes such as oppression, power and violence. Process - A scene is presented to illustrate how a social reality is perceived in unsatisfactory, unresolved ending. The audience (that take the role of spect-ators) are then invited to substitute roles which appear particularly powerless, perplexed or oppressed to bring the oppresed social reality to a satisfactory positive end Project objectives were: by roping 24 youth workers / leasers from 8 different countries to exchange their best practices and insights in dealing with bullying by exposing participants to the nature, purpose, techniques and methods of TOTO mainly “Image” and “Forum Theatres” as tools for social intervention of oppression in bullying by creating four (4) Short Forum Theatre performances so that participants will get the feel of application of this kind of theatre by monitoring the process of these performance, that is, holding debriefing sessions to express participants’ reflections, comments, reflections and learning outcomes. By creating and perform one final Forum theatre performance in front an invited public. By holding a “Daily Report” to record the day’s output and submit it to the organising team. This will enhance participants’ team work, reporting writing, communication skills that would serve a daily overall monitoring process. By holding participants Daily Reflection - Impact teams. At the end of every day’s activities, participants in multi-cultural teams will meet for half an hour and reflect on the whole day’s performance and noted down. These daily impact reflections are to be self facilitated by each participant, in turn, in each team by creating a video from all the project video clips created by participants to reflect the project highlights By carrying Mid and Final project evaluations during the mobility to get participants' feedback on how they are doing and what is going right according to their expectations and what can be improved by carrying daily session called “My Journey” where very morning participants will meet in pairs for half an hour, to share abd record their daily learning outcomes as a support in formulating their Youthpass and Europass Mobility certificates later. By producing a Digital Manual in which we would be uploading the overall outcome of the whole project results for visibility and dissemination purpose and youthwork sustainability
