We wanted to experience whether, and show that, it is also valuable and possible for students with an intellectual disability to gain experience abroad and show that students can also have an input in this. We wanted to be an example for others and share our experiences with other schools for students with disabilities. In addition, we wanted to strengthen the relationship with our partner school so that we would be able to continue working together after this project. To this end, we have formulated the goals below. 1. Building a mutual relationship between the partners for long-term cooperation in the future. 2. Experience what is involved in an international partnership with student mobility and share these experiences with others. 3. Designing an example project for and by students. 4. Creating a script with a checklist, a step-by-step plan and an example project to be shared with other schools in and outside the organizations. 5. Testing student mobility in practice with students and supplementing and/or adapting the script based on the experiences.
The living environment of students with an intellectual disability is small. They are transported to school, come on foot, by metro, and go home the same way. Their living environment is limited to a protected environment in and around school, home and family. Contact with young people other than fellow students/family members is limited. Young people who do have contact outside this environment are often vulnerable. Most students do not or hardly leave their neighborhood, have never been to other parts of their hometown, have not visited other places in their country, have never been abroad and have little/no access to sports, art, culture and nature in your own country and certainly not abroad. We believe that these students also need the opportunity to safely broaden their horizons, gain practical experience in contact with students, including from other countries, and learn about their own culture and explore their own culture together with others. norms and values and those of other cultures, to work together and learn the skills they need to develop their capabilities as full participants of our society and as an involved European citizen. They deserve equal opportunities, nationally and internationally.
