The project aimed to enhance the understanding and application of growth mindset principles across all socio-economic backgrounds, thereby promoting educational equality and fostering innovation in European societies. The specific objectives were: - To develop a well-researched game in collaboration with the target audience, which would include features like gamified exercises for practicing growth principles, and mechanisms to encourage a longer attention span. - To have children using the game report a belief in their capacity for development and a deep understanding of growth mindset theory. - To have children apply their knowledge of growth mindset in their interactions with peers and family.
The Growth Game project aimed to address the underrepresentation of a growth mindset among teenagers, which was identified through research showing that only about 63% of students in OECD countries exhibit a growth mindset. The project also focused on the challenge of short attention spans among youth, exacerbated by the internet and digital media, which affect children’s stamina and willingness to engage deeply in tasks. The initiative created a best practice report, curriculum, digital game, user guide and assessment method to internalize growth mindset principles actively and involve teenagers, their peers, and adults to foster a consistent environment that nurtures personal and intellectual growth.
