Inclusion of marginalised young peoplePreventing racism and discriminationReception and integration of refugees and migrants

Objectives

In our increasingly interconnected world, migration poses a significant challenge for Europe. Critics have begun to question the effectiveness of multiculturalism, labeling it a failure. The rise of "migrant phobia" poses a serious threat to European societies, particularly evident in the recent migration crises involving Syrian and Ukrainian refugees. Insufficient cultural awareness fuels racism, intolerance, and xenophobia against migrants, resulting in widespread human rights violations. Much of this criticism stems from a focus on anti-migrant rhetoric rather than seeking solutions for better integration. According to the latest available figures from UNHCR in 2020, there are 3.674.800 Syrians under Temporary Protection (SuTP) out of 5.654.800 foreign nationals (including Iranians and Iraqis) seeking refuge in Turkish territory. Youth are significantly impacted by migration, with a notable percentage of migrants being young people. Discrimination in schools and universities is common, often leading to bullying. However, youth voices are frequently marginalized in public discourse. Interculturalism offers a potential alternative to multiculturalism, emphasizing intercultural dialogue, exchange, and awareness. Youth organizations and workers can play a vital role in promoting intercultural dialogue through human rights education among young people. In response to the migration crisis, partners have developed a training course empowering youth workers to utilize intercultural dialogue in combating intolerance towards migrants, fostering mutual understanding, and enhancing integration mechanisms for a more inclusive Europe. The main objectives of the project include: - Providing a conceptual framework on key notions such as refugee, migrant, asylum seeker, immigration, integration, interculturalism, and multiculturalism. - Reflecting on emigration and immigration situations in participating countries to understand push and pull factors. - Discussing and analyzing current migration challenges in Europe, with a focus on solutions from the perspective of youth work. - Fostering tolerance, respect, and open-mindedness towards migrants while engaging with young people. - Sharing experiences and best practices of integration mechanisms. - Working on follow-up projects and future cooperation to address related issues.
