Objectives

Based on the statistics provided by European Commission Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Department in 2019, more than 6,3 million young people (aged 15-24 years) were neither in employment nor in education or training (NEETs) in the EU. More than 4.2 million young people (aged 15-24 years) were unemployed in 2019 in the EU. Although it has decreased – from more than 23% in 2015 to less than 19% in 2018– the youth unemployment rate is still very high in the EU. Long-term youth unemployment is still high. Nowadays one of the most popular methods is volunteering to fight against NEET. There is a huge gap between service and learning within voluntary projects. Young people in NEET need to foster their self – esteem, they need to know themselves much better, and their self – confidence has to be enhanced in order to be able to act as a full member of the societies which is the first step to apply for a job at least. So youth workers have to offer such types of voluntary activities for young people in NEET which help them to make the first step. The main focus of the voluntary activities goes to learning through service. Youth workers have to be able to invent, use and adapt creative and innovative non – formal educational methods, tools and or techniques which can provide opportunities for young people in NEET for competence development. As project partners, we have decided to get acquainted with the methodology of self – directed learning as a non –formal educational tool for self – development of young people in NEET and adapt it into our local and transnational voluntary youth projects. We can confirm that all objectives of the project were met. They have been reached by well planned activities, involvement of all partners and participants at all stages. The overall aim of the training course was to initiate local and European voluntary youth work activities with special focus on competence development of ESCers and local young people in NEET by creative and innovative non – formal educational methods e.g. self – directed and social learning then adapting it into their local voluntary youth work. – we have achieved the overall aim through theoretical activities as -To refresh the knowledge on General overview of Erasmus + programme with special focus on ESC; -Maslow model in the context of young people in NEET; -Self – directed learning stages by Grow; -The phases of Self – directed learning process by Emerald; -IT technology as support tool for self – directed learning by Saomya Saxena; -Introduction of Personal Learning Network by Joe Sabado. and practical activities as -Practising the process of self – directed learning according to the methods made by Maurice Gibbon; -Adapting self – directed learning process and its’ methods into the local and European voluntary work; -Clarifying the roles and tasks of mentors, tutors, sending coordinators, volunteer managers in the self – directed learning process of volunteers and ESCers; -Identifying the most appropriate support tools of self – directed learning by IT technology within local and European voluntary activities; -Practising to set up Personal Learning Network within local and European voluntary activities; -Inventing new ESC projects against the NEET situation of young people by using creative and innovative methods on competence development of local and European young people.
