With the We Grow Together for Climate Education & Entrepreneurship project, we wanted to give a boost to nonformal climate education and entrepreneurship for all youth. Nonformal education and entrepreneurship, given by and for youngsters in collaboration with partners in the local communities. Because we knew we can do this! From experience and international cooperation with our project partners and youngsters in 2015-2021. As everyone knows, it is high time to take action together for a climate-proof world and future. Climate change is global and affects everyone. It therefore makes sense to tackle climate challenges and solutions together internationally, and this is possible. Bottom up, with no one left behind, from the power of youngsters and their communities. Floods, forest fires, drought, other climate phenomena and the IPCC report that was published in August 2021 show that we need to act quickly. Young people see this too. They worry about the climate, see solutions and want to act NOW. Within school it is not yet possible for youth to learn quickly and sufficiently about climate themes and entrepreneurship to take action. That is why we took the lead in our Project with youngsters and project partners from 8 different countries to bring the urgency of climate education and entrepreneurship to everyone's attention. And to show how we can realize this education in a nonformal way, by and for youngsters. Online and offline. Locally and internationally connected. In our Project we worked together with 60 youngsters and decision makers from different countries. Decision makers from youth centers, schools, community centers, innovative companies, but also decision makers from global impact organizations. During two 4-day online events in March and May, the youngsters started sharing ideas and small projects about climate change and solutions to enter into a well-prepared dialogue with decision makers during the WGT for Climate Education & Entrepreneurship Event that took place in June 2022 in the Netherlands. The dialogue was about the very interesting questions: How can we accelerate climate education & entrepreneurship for all young people together? How do we create a permanent basis for nonformal education and entrepreneurship in the local society (outside school) in collaboration with youth centers, schools and community centers? In order to stand up for the urgency of nonformal climate education and entrepreneurship not only locally, but also in a European context, we linked this in our Project to the European Youth Strategy 2021-2027 and the European YouthGoals. The pillars of the new strategy for youth are: Engage, Connect, Empower and can therefore make an important contribution to the acceleration of climate education & entrepreneurship that we have in mind with our Project. Objectives of our Project were: • The participants are given space, find a listening ear and appreciation for their ideas for change. • They discover how they can stand up for their climate rights and a climate-proof future; • learn how to tell their story, inspire others and make their voices heard; • experience that they are not the only ones who are concerned and want to work on solutions; • and discover how they can work together in an international community of like-minded people on nonformal climate education & entrepreneurship for all youth. • The participants find out how to collaborate with decision makers from youth centres, schools, municipalities and c companies on a plan to accelerate climate education & entrepreneurship in the 8 project countries. • They get the confidence that they can make a serious impact through their own efforts and joint action and can take greater control of a climate-proof future. • By connecting climate education & entrepreneurship with the European YouthGoals we create a greater sense of European connection between the participants and the greater impact that we as European citizens can make together. With the Project we started building a movement of youngsters who take action for the climate themselves and are able to tell decision-makers what they think and what needs to change. With the We Grow Together for Climate Education & Entrepreneurship Event, we have succeeded in making the start of a practical plan of action with which we can implement the Climate Education & Entrepreneurship program with young people, project partners and decision-makers in the various countries.
