Objectives

We wanted to raise the competences of six teachers in the field of English by one level. This allowed these teachers to include English in subject education. The lessons can be more attractive to students. We wanted to look for and implement new technological solutions as well as new methods and forms of teaching to work with students during lessons, so that students also had the opportunity to implement various projects in cooperation with young people from other countries. What is more, the above activities were aimed at activating young people to undertake initiatives and activities for their community.

Background

We are high school in Lublin, Poland. One of the most important needs for the students of our school is lack of possibliites to learn English in practice. Our students have high expectations in terms of learning this language, we create as many as 3 classes at each level with an increased number of hours of English. As a junior high school in the past, we achieved numerous successes in the competitions in foreign languges. Now operating as a high school, we didn't want students to feel disappointed. We wanted to focus on the practical use of the English language. In their everyday life, they have few such opportunities to come into contact with authentic English due to the economic barrier, i.e. they often come from disadvantaged families, and the geographic barrier because they live in vilages ad small towns. The vast majority of teachers are those who previously taught in junior high school, therefore they look for development opportunities and new forms and teaching methods to reach older youth.
