The idea for the project was born during a pandemic when the organization began replacing stationary activities with online activities. For over a year of the pandemic, we have witnessed a collapse in the level of social involvement that was built over many years by social organizations in Europe. There are cases of complete cessation of activities by social organizations in each country. In Poland, 1/3 of organizations have completely ceased to implement their statutory activities. Many organizations did not take any action due to the lack of funds and the lack of digital skills. This is where our idea was born to create a project that will allow young people to support organizations operating in remote places, on islands, operating in large cities, but trying to include young people from small towns, where community activity is low. We wanted to raise our digital competencies and promote active participation of young people and spending time in a valuable way on the Internet. During the exchange, we wanted to build a model of e-volunteering based on agile management (with the support of a facilitator), which took into account various areas of development for volunteers. For organizations that did not have much experience in e-volunteering yet, it gave the opportunity to expand the form of activities, those organizations that had already started e-volunteering and wanted to reach a larger group was given the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience and rebuild areas that were not yet fully functioning properly. The exchange was based on experiential learning and role-play methods, because we considered these methods to be the most appropriate for the time of the exchange, despite the fact that young people were together, in an international group, they played the role of e-volunteers and built the model and strategy of the program. This YE was the first step in huge change empowering NGO teams, creating space for all and initiating constructive dialogue for change. People full of empathy and sensitivity took action and chose professions related to helping and supporting others. They work in NGOs as full-time volunteers. They try to change the world around them for the better. But, their work is not appreciated or even noticed, which causes discouragement. NGO activists have also been the victims of wrong-designed e-volunteering programs. Work culture - NGO members have no chance to improve their leadership skills to manage the new programme. In EU programmes, we still find opportunities for youths, acquiring hard and soft skills, job-shadowing, but there are no initiatives aimed at improving the quality of work and life. We are going in a direction in which we want to have ideal youths and volunteers equipped with all tools, skills and competencies. Many organizations do not have the tools or the will to involve young people in e-volunteering. If they have any e-volunteers, the collaboration is not a program. There is cooperation from time to time, one task. There is no evaluation, group work, or teams in which to develop and build self-confidence. The youth exchange was implemented in Marsaxlokk, Malta in November 2022. The project duration was seven days and participants did indoor and outdoor activities. The project included 30 youngsters from 6 countries: Malta, Poland, Sweden, Hungary, Turkey and Moldova. Before the topic of the project, all partners gathered together to talk about something common and what problems young people have these days. Because of the pandemic it was a lack of social life, which is why we decided to create “E-volunteering simulation”. With 6 different cultures, this gave space to youth to communicate, left distractions, and created a friendly atmosphere to focus on developing long-lasting relationships and understanding through the informal and nonformal educational methods that were implemented including discussion circles, games and digitality. To summarize, the main objectives were: - raise awareness about e-volunteering among youths in NGOs, the importance of work, mission and values, - exchange our experience and research new tools for personal tackling skills; - bring the skills for NGO management that do not lead to one-day volunteering activities, but encourage young ppl to stay in NGO and develop competencies and the organization - learn competencies for building NGO - empower ourselves and peers who devote time to others(in a healthy way) - create a network of partners to follow up on this topic and change their NGO
