Objectives

In planning this project, we wanted it to respond to a problem that we unanimously consider important. After many conversations and online meetings, we came to the conclusion that environmental protection and ecology are topics close to all of us. Unfortunately, despite the seriousness of the global warming situation, we still have not managed to significantly slow down the process, and many people are unaware of how their daily decisions can affect the environment. Therefore, the first goal of our project was to make both all exchange participants and the people we interacted with aware that the fate of our planet depends on each of us. However, we were aware of how overwhelming the subject is and how many people may consciously ignore information concerning it because they feel powerless due to the scale of the problem. Instead of fomenting fear of an environmental disaster, guidelines and best practices should be exchanged. Hence the decision to focus on the zero waste movement. It is a movement that calls for a significant reduction in the production of waste, and at the same time it is a source of ideas and inspiration for people who do not care about the environment but who do not know how to act themselves. Therefore, our second goal was to familiarize participants and the people who are the recipients of our activities with the idea of zero waste and encourage them to change their habits. However, we were aware that talking and analyzing the problem is one thing, and taking actual steps for the better is another. In order for our efforts to have a tangible result, we set as our third goal to organize an exchange of a particularly practical nature. During our project, we learned how to sew our own bags from recycled material, cleaned up one of the mountain trails and the area around our center, and created unique sculptures from recycled trash. This means that we have not only discussed the scale of the problem and found theoretical ways to integrate the zero-waste idea into our lives, but we have also taken the first practical steps in that direction. And the fourth goal Our project was to connect the Zero Waste movement with art and inspire young people to broaden their horizons. “Zero waste” is usually associated with not wasting food, using less plastic, repairing damaged items instead of buying new ones, etc. Zero Waste, however, is also an ability processing garbage into usable items. So why not turn them into art that can carry informative content and inspire more people to take action? We also hope that through our actions and activities we have influenced not only each other, but also the audience we have been dealing with. During the trail cleaning activity, we established relationships with hikers, whom we encouraged through conversation to take an interest in the zero waste movement. Organizing an exhibition in Poronin we used art as a tool to communicate values important to us to local residents, especially young people from nearby schools. On the other hand, by creating an account on Tik-Tok, we wanted to reach out to young people from all over the world, who, hopefully, through our recordings, looked at the topic of zero waste in a different way and considered it not only an interesting trend, but an important movement for the better.
