Objectives

Before the covid-19 pandemic, we organized the youth exchange “Root into “Time’n’Space”, where young people from all over Europe gained knowledge in the field of ecology and gardening through non-formal education. The effect of the exchange was also the intercultural integration of the citizens of Wrocław and the participants of the exchange. During youth exchange we created new parts in our social garden (which our organization takes care of). Thanks to that, we increased the cultural offer and the possibility of spending free time actively in the area. Together with the current and one new partner, we wanted to continue the actions: using and developing the same space and promoting among young people an active and ecological lifestyle in an intercultural environment. Our main assumptions included the following postulates: 1. We wanted "Czasoprzestrzeń" to become an even greener place on the map of Wrocław, characterized by high biodiversity. Thanks to the development of the community garden and enriching it with additional decorative and vertical plantings, we wanted the area to become an even more friendly place for the local community. At the same time, the project assumed the transfer of both theoretical knowledge to the participants (during workshops, often conducted by the participants themselves) and practical knowledge (during common work in the garden), thanks to which, by the end of the project, they had full "know how", allowing them to independently use the knowledge in their own community, local organization or private life. 2. The exchange placed great emphasis on environmental awareness and the development of pro-ecological attitudes. We wanted to influence the attitudes of young people and their behavior in the face of the climate catastrophe that we are currently facing as humanity. 3. The "Czasoprzestrzeń" facility is a place open daily and for everyone. The local community, including numerous students from nearby dormitories, visit us on the occasion of cultural events addressed to specific groups of recipients. The community garden is to be a space for natural local integration of all local residents, regardless of age, origin or interests. By developing a community garden, we wanted to contribute to the growth of this idea. 4. At the same time, the entire facility has been co-created over the years by volunteers from all over Europe, thanks to which the space is somehow spontaneously dedicated to intercultural dialogue and the promotion of mutual tolerance. The ecological exchange was planned as another element of joint work of Polish and foreign citizens. Although we did not plan a joint event with the local community, we wanted to leave another international trace in the facility, in the form of multilingual information boards, raising ecological awareness. The assumptions of the project assumed the implementation of a youth meeting combining three elements: expanding ecological knowledge, strengthening international dialogue and participation in practical workshops. All the assumed goals were to be achieved with the use of non-formal education tools, in an active way and involving participants in activities.
