Objectives

During our youth project „Let’s design the future” young participants “faced” a few of the biggest challenges that mankind has ever had to deal with. Our overriding goal was to work out a set of good practices, propositions of international programs, and reforms aimed at counteracting the effects of threats that all nations with no exceptions no matter the level of economic or social advancement will have to deal with the upcoming decades. The first challenge is concerning the increasing automation, robotization, and the rising scope of artificial intelligence which can eventually lead to the marginalization of regular people. Once participants became familiar with the subject of an ongoing digital transformation by participating in interactive workshops, we considered tangible solutions which include, but are not limited to, universal basic income, reduced workweek, or increase in activity by NGOs to activate people and point them to pursuing new fulfilling goals. The further challenge humanity is starting to face is BigData and the consolidation of sensitive data in the hands of powerful corporations and governments. BigData gives authoritarian governments a tool to control and manipulate society and it provides big corporations yet another competitive advantage, and, hence, power. During creative workshops, the youth designed systemic reforms aimed at counteracting the negative effects of Big Data. Another challenge has to do with the destructive effects of climate change. We already know that without a coordinated international effort, we have no chance to effectively slow down climate change which effects are hard to foresee. What we know, however, is that the negative effects will impact the most on the poorest countries, similarly to the negative effects of automation and robotization that will more probably make big corporations reconsider moving production sites closer to where the clients are. As young Europeans, we feel the responsibility to work out the methods and tools for the effective resolution of these issues. One of the unavoidable consequences of these megatrends is the growing intensity of human migration. Although accepting migrants may in fact be considered as a tool to help poorer countries deal with the challenges posed by the automation or climate challenge, immigration itself has posed a significant political challenge itself. For this reason, during our project, we made an attempt to design effective and just immigration policies that bring value to both the accepting countries and immigrants. Overall our goal was to increase the sense of common European values and the solidarity among the citizens of Europe and beyond. We believe that there is nothing uniting the challenges we all have to face!.
