Many young people growing up in European regions affected by armed conflicts or regions of the refugee crisis, being exposed to and/or enduring the consequences of physical and structural violence, are often confronted with dramatic life-forming experiences, emotions and challenges. Such experiences may strongly influence their views and behaviour towards their own and other communities, their relation to conflict and peace and to their identity. Many young people engage in constructive initiatives and dialogue instead of becoming multipliers of hatred, violence and discrimination. When supported and recognised in their role, these young people may become peer leaders and educators and, in turn, raise awareness of and involve other young people in dialogue, mediation, conflict transformation and peace work projects. In their role as peer leaders and in learning about conflict and peace, it is important for them to relate to and be confronted with the life stories, experiences and aspirations of other young people from other conflict regions or regions with refugee crises. At the same time, sports and physical activity in society are more important than ever as people, especially younger generations, become less active and obesity levels continue to rise with negative impacts on society. There are countless testimonials as to the value of sport and physical activity as a tool that can help drive social change, tackle issues such as inclusion amidst diversity or gender equality, or as a means to inspire greater self-confidence, and ultimately contribute to healthier and happier individuals of all ages, abilities and nationalities. In this project, we combine efforts of Western and Eastern Europe to tackle exclusion with very accessible and attractive instruments, which can add much more as an advocacy base for positive changes in other countries than just national or local results. The general aim is to create sustainable conditions for the facilitation of social inclusion and increase the level of social reconciliation by relying on training and mentoring support for equal involvement in grassroots sport & human rights education (HRE). Objectives of the project: -To improve competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) of participants in HRE, peacebuilding, and intercultural dialogue; -To share participant’s personal successful sports & social practices and learning strategies in a positive and safe atmosphere of living and learning together; -To motivate and support participants in their role as multipliers and peer leaders in peacebuilding activities using grassroots sport & HRE with young people, encouraging them to implement follow-up initiatives; -To strengthen the international network of grassroots sport & HRE Youth Coaches; -To promote social inclusion, equal opportunities and awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activity, through increased participation in, and equal access to sports for all.
