Objectives

The main goal of the project was the social and digital inclusion of individuals aged 60 and above. Barriers that cause seniors to feel isolated and poorly integrated into society include disability, health issues, and currently essential low digital literacy. Therefore, the specific objectives of the project were actions aimed at increasing: Physical activity, which allows for delaying the aging process and thus maintaining the fitness necessary for daily functioning of older individuals. Intellectual activity, encompassing cognitive skills (such as memory exercises, attention, and logical thinking), which enable seniors to function better in society and become more communicative. As part of this effort, seniors' digital literacy also increased, enabling them to navigate the virtual world of government offices, banks, clinics, and other institutions. Cultural activity, often defined as a factor in social cohesion, which fosters the development of imagination, creativity, openness to others, and above all, satisfies the emotional needs of seniors.

Background

The project was created during the pandemic, when the majority of society was isolated and had limited opportunities for contact. This particularly affected older people, who were already at risk of social exclusion due to age and health status. The PCKK Education and Development Foundation runs the Senior Competence Center, which brings together active individuals participating in educational activities. The vision of the SCC is to work with individuals who improve their skills, maintain physical fitness, learn new things, and keep up with digital changes. Trainers from the PCKK Foundation constantly seek various attractive forms of educational activities to mobilize an increasingly larger group of people into action. The project's idea was to propose activities that would be attractive to SCC members but also attract new individuals who had not previously participated in educational activities. The PCKK Foundation invited the University of the Third Age from Liberec to collaborate in order to broaden the scope of educational activities. Thanks to this partnership, joint workshops could be prepared for Polish and Czech participants, which was an additional factor encouraging seniors to participate in the project.
